The Irchester Field School
The Irchester Field School is a joint partnership between The Chester House Estate (CHE) and the Northamptonshire Archaeological Resource Centre (ARC) and University of Leicester's School of Ancient History and Archaeology.
This programme is a unique opportunity for your pupils to engage with highly experienced archaeological researchers and CHE staff and volunteers passionate about making archaeological research accessible, providing an exceptional range and depth of knowledge and expertise.

SAVE THE DATE: Roman Fest is back, 28th & 29th June 2025
Roman Fest is our annual two day event celebrating everything Roman here at the Chester House Estate. More than 30 different heritage organisations, including museums, community groups and re-enactors are involved. The weekend will include Roman legionary demonstrations, craft making, a pop-up archaeological lab Roman themed family friendly activities, an ARC open day, tours of our excavation and plenty more…

Winners of the Learning, Training & Skills Award at the 2024 Archaeological Achievement Awards
We're delighted to have been awarded the Learning, Training and Skills award for our Irchester Field School archaeological programme. This programme is an innovative collaboration between North Northants Council (at the Chester House Estate) and the University of Leicester, inspiring and empowering people of all ages to engage in life-enhancing opportunities focused on the small Roman town of Irchester, and the rich archaeology and heritage of the Nene Valley.
