Volunteers at Chester House Estate

15th January 2021

Our volunteering programme is due to start throughout Spring 2021 including opportunities within our gardening, conservation, museum, archive and fundraising departments.

Our applications for volunteering positions are now open.

We currently on the look out for:

Facilities Volunteers

To aid the development and ongoing maintenance of various gardens including our herb garden, sensory garden and children’s vegetable garden.

The role also includes ongoing care and maintenance of the estate including orchard pruning, re fencing projects and scrub clearance.

Archaeological Archive Volunteers

The new Northamptonshire Archaeological Resource Centre (ARC) will hold over 20,000 boxes of archaeological material and associated paper records from over 3,000 archaeological sites within the county.

Currently, these archives are almost entirely uncatalogued. They have been previously stored for many years in unsuitable conditions.

We are looking for a team of volunteers to help with the re-packaging and cataloguing of these archives. This will greatly improve the accessibility of our collections and their level of care to ensure they are useable for researchers and future generations.

Volunteers will be given a chance to handle real archaeological objects and develop their knowledge about them and their curation.

If you are interested in either role, in the first instance please contact our partners at Nenescape – Rickileigh Edwards nenescape1@rnrp.org
